In November 2022, the 25th International Riversymposium (IRS) was held in Vienna, Austria, drawing in nearly 500 virtual and in-person delegates from all over the world. Hosted by the International RiverFoundation, this event provided a platform for river managers, practitioners, policy developers, scientists, government, NGOs, and community organisations to share knowledge and innovative ideas on all aspects of river and water management.
The overall resounding message of IRS 2022 was that it is crucial in 2023 to intensify our united actions to achieve the restoration, protection, and resilience of rivers throughout the world. Key messages from the incredible speakers during the Symposium were collated and curated into a powerful document of critical river commitments. The upcoming UN Water Conference in March provides an essential catalyst to amplify these messages to drive immediate action. In the lead-up to this monumental event for water – and, furthermore, for rivers – IW:LEARN is delighted to amplify these key messages.
